Music Directors Report:

The Concert Band Fall Concerts for 2010 have been changed to October 25th and 26th.  No date for a dress rehearsal has been scheduled.  The combined bands will present a concert on July 3rd, 2010 and July 2nd, 2011.   At the Christmas Concert on December 7th, admission if free, but a free will offering will be taken.  The recipient of that donation will be decided.  Jean received a request from the Philharmonic Guild for donations of old instruments.  Contact Jean if you have one to donate.

New Horizons Band Fall Concert dates have been changed to November 29th and 30th for 2010.     Jean will check if a recreation center is available in June for a concert again.

The Swing Band is playing for the Palo Alto Christmas Party on December 28th.  They are performing in a program with the Vamps on January 22nd, and the Sweetheart Dance is on Saturday, February 13th.

Sunshine Strollers are playing December 15th at Big City Grill and December 22nd at Lake Sumter Sales Office.  Their schedule for 2010 includes: Feb 16 Mardi Gras, March 17 St Patrick's Day, May 5 Cinco de Mayo, October 8 Italian Parade and October 27 Oktoberfest Parade.

The Jazz Workshop group played for the grand re-opening of the renovated La Hacienda Center.  They have an upcoming gig scheduled for February 26th.

It was suggested that our newspaper ads mention that ensembles will be performing in the lobby before our concerts.

Old Business:

John Sunday reported 218 hits on the website since the last meeting.  A few pictures from New Horizons are missing.  Swing Band has been updated with one picture missing.

Ward said there are 30 people going on the 2010 UK trip.  The date has been changed to Aug 12-25.

Rehearsals at Mulberry Rec Center for New Horizons Band and the ensembles appear to be going well other than the fact the time is early.

The Board has received a few suggestions from band members regarding charitable donations.   A committee will meet to form some guidelines that the board can work with.  We are primarily interested in musical requests, however we are open to others.

Pat O'Donnell stated that we were able to get a little more exposure in the paper just before the Fall Concerts.  Our membership really needs to take part in promoting our concerts.  Pat will contact neighboring communities and the numerous magazines found in The Villages to advertise future concerts.

New Business:

It was noted that the terms of Board Members from New Horizons Band and Sunshine Strollers would end in March 2010.  Newly elected members will be seated at the April 2010 meeting.

It was brought up that we should be attending funeral services of members if at all possible.  It was noted that members are notified to make them aware of times and place of services.  Members are asked to attend in their yellow band shirt and a donation from the band is made in the deceased person's name to a charity of their choice.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:10 AM.

Respectfully submitted, Jan Symicek, Secretary, BOTV
